About Us

The Animal Care Center (ACC) Dog Park was developed and is run as a partnership between Volunteers and Sonoma County Regional Parks Department.

The Story

In 2001, a small group of West Sonoma County dog owners began negotiations with the Sonoma County Regional Parks Department to develop a safe, attractive and accessible off-leash area at Ragle Ranch Park in Sebastopol. In order to make their vision a reality they realized that a great deal of work lie ahead, but persevered because of the commitment they had to try and provide dogs in the community a quality local dog park. As a result over the next few years, this group was required to do the following:

  • Form a Limited Liability Corporation to legitimize their fund raising efforts and to be recognized as a responsible entity that the County could formally work with
  • Provide extensive public notification and gather public opinion about the dog park plan
  • Work in tandem with the Parks Department for over four years in designing and developing the dog park site, including handicapped accessibility and landscaping
  • Fund 50% of a year-long full environmental study on potential sites
  • Raise over $50,000 needed to create and maintain this fabulous new dog park
  • Continue to work as a governing and fund raising entity to keep the ACC Dog Park going

Animal Care Center of Sonoma County as Major Donor

We were extremely fortunate to have received the financial support necessary for the initial development of the dog park with a very generous donation of $30,000. from Animal Care Center (ACC) of Sonoma County. ACC also committed to donating an additional $2,500 per year for 10 years toward the park's maintenance fund.

Friends of the Dog Park, LLC is still active in addressing concerns about the ACC Dog Park, as well as responsible for raising $2000. each year (in addition to ACC's annual contribution), to cover ongoing maintenance and administrative costs, and to help recruit and organize volunteers for work parties, fund raising events and working with the County Parks Department overseeing the future of the dog park.
